Get Out Of Your Mind And Into The Water

Combine adventure and self-improvement in one unforgettable getaway on Grand Bahama Island, that goes beyond just exploring the depths of the sea. We have created a unique six-night, five-day land-based trip by joining forces with Dr. Brian Goff, a clinical psychologist, to dive deep into our psyche with his expert-led psychological workshops. We are offering the opportunity to explore personal growth, self-discovery, and mindfulness while enjoying beautiful scuba dives. We will dive together every morning, followed by workshops on psychological flexibility with thoughts and feelings. These include Finding Our Flow: Mindful Diving and Present-Moment Awareness for enhancing our dives and safety, Navigation by Our Values: Who We Are and Why We Dive – identity, values, and committed actions. This retreat is the perfect blend of adventure, relaxation, and self-discovery, offering a rare opportunity to combine the experience of scuba diving under the direct supervision of Cristina with the benefits of psychological exploration. It is a chance to deepen the connection to ourselves and the world around us.We will dive off the south shore of Grand Bahama, in a mix of reef, wrecks, and shark encounter dives—no night dives.

In scuba, we prepare many things before a dive. We think about dive planning, gas planning, gear configuration and the like.  We are also trained in dive-specific skills to respond to situations that might arise whilst diving.  What we spend less time thinking about and preparing are our own thoughts and emotions that come with us on our dives and that show up whist diving.

There are psychological processes that impact our readiness to dive. They can impact our safety, the accessibility of our training and dive-specific skills, our response to unexpected situations mid-dive, and our enjoyment of and fulfillment from diving.  These processes moderate how flexibly we relate to challenging thoughts and emotions that show up, and how mindful we can be to the moment-by-moment things that are happening within and around us. They determine how we think about ourselves as divers in helpful and potentially unhelpful ways. They impact even our ideas about why we dive and the degree of vitality and joy we derive from diving. Of course, these psychological processes show up in our lives out of water as well.

In this retreat, we will examine the processes associated with psychological flexibility, discover our own personal tendencies toward rigidity, and learn scientifically-validated methods to increase our own flexibility.  We will also discuss values, how they differ from goals, and explore our own freely chosen values through accessible, experiential, and personal exercises.

All of this will be done in a parallel process. Our focus will be on the experience and appreciation of diving and how to be a more mindful, engaged, and psychologically flexible diver.  We will also discuss how these are relevant and applicable to our “surface intervals” a.k.a., the rest of life.

This model of psychological functioning and the technology of intervention that comes from it is from the world of clinical psychology, but has been widely applied and validated in sports performance, thriving and wellness, business and organizational contexts, and more.  This model applies to all humans, even to those of us who love scuba diving!

Bahamas Liveaboard Experience

Join us for unforgettable shark dive and educational opportunities for a 10 night-9 day trip around The Bahamas to meet up to ten different species of sharks and rays.

We will sail on board a 46ft Leopard catamaran with a maximum of six passengers and five crew members, including Kewin and Cristina. On the first day, we will board the boat in Freeport, Grand Bahama, at the dock in Port Lucaya. Once everyone is on board, we will sail for dinner. There are three areas we are going to cover during our cruise; like anything open ocean related, they are dependent on weather, and we will do our best to navigate from one to the other to avoid the worst conditions, so there is no specific itinerary. After checking the weather in the evening, we will discuss the best option for the following day or days and will include the group of divers in the decision making process

The locations and dives are: 1. Shark Junction, where we will conduct swimming on reef, no structured shark dives, and our unique interactive shark dive, learning about the local shiver of Caribbean Reef and all the sharks on the site.

2. Tiger Beach, where we will be diving with Tiger, Lemon, Caribbean, and Bull sharks. 3. Bimini for the unique Great Hammerhead shark dives and the opportunity to meet baby Lemon sharks, Atlantic Sharp-nose sharks, and stingrays in the shallows.

We will land and allow for some time off walking the island of Bimini and checking out the local places. Evening and sunset snorkel and swims around some of the local attractions are also included in our itinerary.

We will complete a max of three dives per day, no night dives; dives are determined by weather, underwater conditions, current, visibility to guarantee the best safe experience for all participants.

A minimum of an Open Water Diver certification is required to join our trip.

We return to Freeport, Grand Bahama Island, and disembark on the last day of the cruise after breakfast. Cabins are double occupancy; we will provide a divisor between the beds for people sharing the same room. Each cabin has one private bathroom with a shower and a charging station. The boat will provide one towel for the shower and one for diving at the start of the cruise. We share our meals on the back deck; we will use the inside dining area in case of wind or rain. The water temperature around 73-74 F (23-24 C) however, many dives are stationary.

A full wetsuit is mandatory for all the dives; we also recommend gloves,  hood, and possibly additional layers over a 3mm suit. Most dives are shallow, but we might complete a dive or two in 18-25m 60-80ft depending on weather and itinerary; they will not be the first dives of the trip. The price is $6.427 (2027) $6.684 (2028) (US dollars) per person, including all the diving, food, and accommodation for the listed dates.

Passengers are welcome; however, due to the small number of guests we take, the price remains the same. We do not have a single cabin upgrade; single cabin price is the full price for two people.  During each cruise, I will give several presentations about sharks, behavior, ocean conservation, and the work we conduct in The Bahamas and the rest of the world.  Kewin will be the official photographer and videographer, collecting images and videos of your trip above and below the water. It will be emailed to you as a package at the end of your trip, included in the price. ADDITIONAL TRIP OFFERED ONCE PER YEAR: Once per year we offer an Oceanic White Tip shark trip during April (11 nights-10 days) The itinerary for this trip starts in Freeport, Grand Bahama, and ends in Eleuthera, from which divers will need to organize a return flight. The airline company that organize transfers between Eleuthera Rock sound Airport and Nassau is BahamasAir More details on how to fly out of Eleuthera will be provided if interested in this trip.

The itinerary includes: 1. 3. We will then sail south and hit Nassau Blue Hole, the Exumas and Cat Island where we will stop to dive with the Oceanic White tip sharks. 4.  In the Exumas we will encounter iguanas and real Bahamian swimming pigs Price is $7.070 (US dollars) per person. Sardine Run South Africa

The Sardine Run otherwise known as the greatest shoal on earth! The action normally starts around Port Elizabeth and East London before reaching the Wild Coast and then onto the east coast. The area between East London and Port St Johns is located on the hot spot of this migration route and this area has brought the best action over past years. Common Dolphins, Bottlenose Dolphins, Cape Gannets, Brides whales, Humpback whales, Dusky sharks, Copper sharks, Bull sharks, Black tip sharks, Ragged tooth sharks, Cape fur seals, even Sailfish can be seen in this area at this time. Our main goal is to find baitballs, but it does not go off everyday. On slow baitball days, we still encounter dolphins, Humpback whales and sharks. This makes it the ultimate Ocean Safari.
